4 Tips for Creating a Powerful Year Ahead

Dec 28, 2016

Ah, the New Year is quickly approaching. This year, I vow to make everything different. How? First, I’m going to throw resolutions out the window. Let’s be real-you either end up making some changes but neglect to follow through after a month or so. Or, you don’t do anything different that you vowed to at all. So, instead of making resolutions, I’m focusing on making my year more powerful. That can mean lots of different things for many different people, but for me; I have a few things in mind. If you want to start the New Year off on a fresh foot, without making set promises with strict timelines; focus on living your best life instead-a more powerful one. Here are four helpful tips to get started!

  1. Live simply

This can be difficult for many people. I know it’s especially difficult for me at times. I’m guilty of “needing” to have those designer pair of jeans or that brand name bag. But, what does that really say about me? After thinking about it, I’ve decided that my year will be more powerful, if those little, expensive extras become powerless. So, I’m going to make it a point to live more simply. Instead of finding joy in items that have a high monetary value, I’m going to try to take joy in a delicious cup of coffee, the sound of silence in the evening, and the whiff of a sweet smelling candle.

  1. Love Your Body

Many people take their health for granted. They sometimes forget that they are given one body. And, their everyday choices can really take a toll on it. By love your body, I don’t mean crash diet, or spend every waking moment at the gym for a total transformation. But, by reflecting on the fact that you are able to move, able to see, able to speak, and able to live a certain quality of life, you will be more inclined to make better choices about what you eat, how you spend your time, and how you feel about yourself when you look in the mirror each morning.

  1. Fix Your Finances

Most people incorporate something financial into their new year’s resolution every year. And, most people fail. Instead of fixating on a target number or opening dozens of new accounts, focus on something small, but could make a big impact in the long run. My financial advisor friend recommended that if I wanted to have a more powerful year, I need to become financially iterate and savvy before I could make any kind of plan. So, take control of your life and meet with an expert who can help you pave the way to financial success, one baby step at a time.

  1. Say Something Positive Every Day

It’s so easy to write something positive, thanks to social media. But, I feel that it’s just so impersonal. I have never felt so far away from the closest people in my life because I’ve observed that the majority of our conversations are written! So, I’m making it a point to say something kind to someone every day. Whether it be a co-worker, a family member, a friend who I need to call, or a complete stranger; everyone deserves that connection and stimulation. And, you’ll be amazed at how great the power of personalized praise can make you feel.

These four tips are on the top of my list when I ring in the New Year. If you’re tired of the resolutions like I am, then join me in the pursuit for a more powerful year ahead!
